The Dead Weather are set to play Prospect Park Bandshell August 3rd, in a concert to support free shows at Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Center. Tickets on sale today, May, 7, at noon for $37.50. Grab your ticket at the Bowery presents before it is gone!
In case you don’t know, The Dead Weather are a brand new rock outfit consisting of Dean Fertita, Jack Lawrence, Alison Mosshart and Jack White. The impetus for the band came when Mosshart’s band The Kills opened on a few US tour dates for The Raconteurs. Recognizing immediately the musical synergy between Mosshart, White and Lawrence, the trio devised a plot to record together during some down time in White’s own Third Man Recording Studio in Nashville where White enlisted the addition of erstwhile Raconteurs’ touring accomplice and Queens Of The Stone Age collaborator Dean Fertita. What was initially imagined as a one-off collaboration for a 7” single release turned into a full blown album project once the quartet switched on the recording tape. The Dead Weather’s menacing sounds were so electrifying that they couldn’t help but keep the tape rolling. In three weeks they had recorded a full length album, Horehound produced by Jack White, to be released on White’s Third Man Records in June. The album features the band’s explosive debut single, “Hang You Up From The Heavens”, which is currently available through iTunes, backed with a dirge driven cover of Gary Numan’s “Are Friends Electric?”
QUAFF – Live at The Knitting Factory Brooklyn NY On 9th April2010
After bringing their incredibly successful US tour in 2008 and 2009, they are coming back! The “Samurai Rock” and vivid Japanese visual expression are here to price your skull with the genre-breaking sound of Quaff!
Quaff is a band like none other. They bring elements of traditional Japanese music and culture into their heavy hitting music and live performances. Based around the Japanese concept of “uta” (melody) and “tsuzuri” (rap),
Quaff rocks out with dual vocalists emphasizing their Japanese roots. Everything from the vocal melodies, to the rapping, to the drum beats, to the music screams of Japanese which takes their rock sound to a completely unique level. Even in a country saturated with musicians, Quaff is the only one to create a fusion of synergy between the traditional Japanese aura and modern music. Keep rocking~~

Continuing their work with both the J Dilla Estate as well as Serato Stones Throw has stepped in to facilitate the creative of Donut Shop, a package meant for any Hip Hop Serato user who has anything produced by the late producer in their libraries, and that should be all of them. The multiple piece set features a total of 6 unreleased Dilla instrumentals with 3 being of the completely unreleased variety hand selected by J. Rocc. As if the notion of more Dilla music wasn’t enough, Studio No.1 was enlisted to create great packaging with donut illustrations used through-out, including Donut slipmats. Currently on pre-release order status the complete set has a release date set for May 10th.
After Themata, the album debuted back in April 2005 that single-handedly set a new benchmark for heavy rock in this country and others, Karnivool finally presents to you their latest album – Sound Awake, a very interesting album where every song takes its own path, irrespective of convention or traditional structure. From the leviathan-sized bass growl of opener Simpleboy, to the lurching groove, belching bottom end and jazz-metal stylings of Goliath (our favorite), it’s immediately clear that the wait is worthed and Karnivool have stepped things up a notch, both musically and sonically. You can find out more about them at their official website, be sure you check out their latest album at youtube to see it for yourself if we are right or not. And be sure to order your copy at Omega Order. Rock on~
Crash Kings to Hit the Road with JET On 9th February2010
Highly tuneful, very aggressive, hard-hitting rock. Crash Kings take the three-man-band concept to their own unique level, quite often surpassing guitar-driven bands. When siblings and music collide it makes for what we so casually call “undeniable chemistry.” Channeling their passion, they create music so powerful it’s almost a crime—a crime that has been aided and abetted by nothing other than fate itself. Two brothers and one hard-hitting drummer come together to form an ivory-driven power trio firmly rooted in right here and right now; this is Crash Kings.
Crash Kings are ecstatic to announce their tour with Australian rockers JET. The North American trek will begin in Toronto, ON on March 5 at The Opera House. Crash Kings have previously toured with Chris Cornell, Stone Temple Pilots, The Bravery and Rooney. The Sing For China Tour will bring three of China’s biggest and best indie-rock bands to the U.S. this month as part of an unprecedented effort by the Chinese music community to help children orphaned by AIDS in China. The tour is being produced by Modern Sky Records of Beijing, China’s largest independent record label. The featured bands include: Hedgehog powered by pint-size female drummer/vocalist Atom, represent the best of China’s rock scene. The band was a featured headliner at the Modern Sky Festival in 2008 and Strawberry Festival (Beijing) in May of 2009. Hedgehog’s 2006 debut Noise Hit World was a critic favorite in China, and their 2008 release Blue Day Dreaming helped catapult them to the top of the Chinese indie-rock world. Queen Sea Big Shark Expect a barrage of rock n’ roll-electro power punches from arguably the most ferocious rockers on the Beijing scene. QSBS rarely disappoints in delivering tight, raunchy instrumentation fronted by the frenetic, full-body assault of singer Fu Han, a woman seemingly possessed on stage. The band supported the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Modern Sky Festival (Beijing) in 2007 and recently headlined the Converse sponsored “Love Noise” tour in China (featured here on the Dazed and Confused website: http://dazeddigital.com/projects/Converse-LoveNoise/Music.aspx. Casino Dream Veering from raw, noisy guitar bursts to tight, rapid-paced assaults, Casino Demon during 2006 moved from the outskirts of the Beijing live music scene to the forefront. At heart, they’re a good-time rock n’ roll band that really like to crank it up. Casino Demon recently celebrated the release of their new album, Teenage, in March of 2009.
